Katowice is known to be business-friendly mainly due to its history and tradition. Heavy industry and coal mining have been replaced by such industries as: information technology (e.g. IBM), automotive industry (e.g. Rockwell Automation), high technology, (e.g. Yamazaki Mazak) and food processing (e.g. Unilever).

Over the past few years, Katowice has become an important center of shared service centers and continues to strengthen its position as one of the leaders of business services in Poland. According to the latest ABSL Report "Business Services Sector in Poland", Katowice and GZM are one of the five most-developed centers of modern business services in Poland. In Q1 2019, service centers in the analyzed area employed 23,500, which is 8% of total employment in sector in Poland. 102 service centers belonging to investors from 20 countries are located in this area.

The noticeable, dynamic growth of the industry in the region is attracting the attention of global, leading brands, who decide to put their investments here.

Numerous global players, like Rockwell Automation, Capgemini, Mentor or PwC located their centres in Katowice. Since their initial decision about investing in Katowice, these companies have increased their employment significantly. Other companies such as Teleperformance, SMS Metallurgy, Sii, Epam, Sapiens have also appreciated investment attractiveness of our city.

Recently in Katowice have invested companies such as: Accenture, Guardian Industries, Knauf, ITI Neovision (nc+), TÜV Rheinland, Fujitsu and Honeywell.
