Katowice is known to be business-friendly mainly due to its history and tradition. Heavy industry and coal mining have been replaced by such industries as: information technology (e.g. IBM), automotive industry (e.g. Rockwell Automation), high technology, (e.g. Yamazaki Mazak) and food processing (e.g. Unilever).

Over the last few years, Katowice has become an important center of BSS and is constantly strengthening its position as one of the leaders in business services in Poland. According to ABSL's latest report "Business services sector in Poland 2017", Katowice Agglomeration is the 5th center in the country, with employment in the sector at 19,000 people. The noticeable, dynamic growth of the industry in the Katowice Agglomeration is attracting the attention of global, leading brands, who decide to put their investments here.

Numerous global players, like Ericsson, Kroll Ontrack, Mentor Graphics, PwC located their centres in Katowice. Since their initial decision about investing in Katowice, these companies have increased their employment significantly. Other companies such as Teleperformance, SMS Metallurgy, Sii, Epam, Sapiens have also appreciated investment attractiveness of our city.

Recently in Katowice have invested companies such as: Accenture, Arvato Bertelsmann, Altium, Groupon, Guardian Industries, Knauf, ITI Neovision (nc+) and Jamf Poland.
